The people you find in cinemas

Ever been to the movies and realized that the audience are either too quiet or overboard with the noise level?

As a seasoned (ahem) movie goer you should probably be able to identify these characters when you chance across them. The ones that are obviously plain irritating are those who make your movie experience one that shouldn’t be remembered. Or gone sour. Whatever, I digress.

First, I shall start with the annoying kids who won’t shut up. Seriously, did your parents teach you anything? As in, try not to make unnecessary noises while out in public? This isn’t your home living room where you can shout and do as you please. There’re other viewers in the hall as well, so if you can’t keep your trap shut and behave, don’t come in, rent the DVD when it comes out or something. Read this quote somewhere: “Silence is golden, duct tape is silver.” Hear that, parents?

I’ve several experiences that I recall the ridiculous rackets: when King Kong released, the cinema halls for the movie were huge. Really big. So there’s a considerable amount of space for people to walk up the rows to their seats etc. And halfway during the movie, I swore I saw kids running down the isle, laughing and talking. Erm, excuse me? And there was Transformers, which a kid won’t stop talking behind me and another cried when the camera focused on a head shot for Optimus Prime. What about that movie, A Christmas Carol, when Hwee Lynn had to tell a kid behind to be quiet? And not to mention he kept kicking the seats. Parents who bring their underaged kids to watch a totally adult movie is also beyond me. Why would you bring your baby to watch Michael Jackson’s This Is It? He will obviously cry through most of the scenes than break into song.

People who kick your seats from behind are plain annoying. It’s ok to fidget, but when it comes to kicking seats, are you even aware of that? It’s quite inconsiderate when you assume the person in front of you won’t mind, or won’t notice the chair shaking.

Okay, now that I’ve talked about the noisy people, it’s time to touch on the quiet ones. I know that the silent audience is much better than a loud one, but some times isn’t it too quiet for words? There’re probably many factors to a laughing group of viewers; the amount of people in a cinema, the type of people in the cinema and the genre of the said movie. Generic movies that will tickle your funny bone are [most] animated films, rom coms and and comedies in general. But if you get a odd mixture of people in the cinema I guess the laughter won’t be as pronounced as usual.

While watching Vampire Sucks, I think it was the small cinema and lack of people and probably the fact that not all the viewers hadn’t watched/read the series. The movie was hilarious, a total mocking of the books and movies. Can’t even do it better myself! Although there were several name drops and jokes that even I can’t comprehend. I guess there were too many Twilight references. And what’s with the Canadian jokes? And somehow the Jersey Shore people and the Kardashians got dragged into this. So if you haven’t been keeping track of America’s most popular reality shows and E!, you probably won’t recognize half of the jokes they’re talking about. Oh, and did I mention they’ve a Taylor Swift spoof as well? Kinda obvious since ‘Becca’ (ala Bella) was strumming a sparkly guitar (gift from Edward? HAHA) and singing in that twangy style which doesn’t really bring anyone else to mind but T. Swift.

Speaking of that, her newly released (or leaked) single Mine is now playing on the airwaves. I really admire her song-writing skills but no offense-Mine sounds like a repackaged version of all the songs she had ever done. Maybe it’s time to take on a new angle?

I know that cinemas have no written rules on the noise level, but I still people ought to be considerate in this matter. There are some who will tell you off for being too loud, and others who rather sit in silence and endure because they wouldn’t want to cause a scene. So please think about others sitting amongst you in the hall. (:

And yeah one more thing. People who forgot to silence their mobiles and as a result their blaring ringtones of Rihanna or what not bouncing off the walls! Whatever happened to the public service announcement before a movie starts? Someone should request that those notices be put up again.

Ok, rant over. Been drafting this since yesterday.

The inevitable end

When NBC canceled Heroes and a few other TV series, I was rather taken aback, although a part of me felt that we all knew that this was on the horizon.

Heroes was akin to something once so magnificent and great only to fall short soon after and disappear altogether. Season One was fantastic-the hype it spurred! Season 2 was a tad bit bland if compared to the first. And the rest is really sort of history. Somehow, the series had failed to resurrect the hypnotic pull it once had. I have no idea what drove it to go downhill so steeply. I admit that it was a little sad that NBC did not let the show reach its finale. An official closure would’ve been more ceremonial-and final. In a way to speak that we could have dealt with it’s end and move on without giving too much thought. But I guess NBC has other things in mind.

I no longer follow House on AXN; I decided that I can live without it after all and follow Glee solely on weekdays. It’s very simple to like Glee-though people might give you different answers, the core message conveyed would be somewhat interlinked. Not to mention the routines that they always have in store for us every episode. Oprah said that the cast is extremely hardworking, and I must say that I agree. It must be extremely taxing!

7 more months until I graduate. Time is moving slow yet fast when you’re busy. I hardly noticed time last semester-I really didn’t notice the passing weeks/months until we’re at our final project. Time seems to be measured in this way now.

I’m submitting my essay entry tomorrow. Both excited and nervous. I haven’t joined anything in years. You can read my entry below-this is the unedited version; I had to shrink it down to 500 words. Anyway, there isn’t much difference so to speak.

Wish me luck. Now, I’m heading back to homework.

Laughing matter

I don’t think that having a lot of photos on your blog means that you are really a bimbo or some overly-perky, camwhore. But everyone’s entitled to their own opinions. Because the content matters too. So what about those people (like me) who blog more than post photos? Are we really intellectuals? Because it would be so thick-skinned to really admit that you’re, which is the actual reason is that probably we aren’t the photo-savvy type.

I’m pretty excited for our History of Art project. We’re supposed to be making two costumes based on art movements! Yuki and I were raving about our ideas, too bad we only had an hour to discuss.

I miss 5 Batai 2007. In a way. Yes, Ethan. Sorry for the abrupt disconnection! D: I don’t know what happened myself. I couldn’t reconnect anymore and my mum had dinner ready. Sigh. But I had a great time talking to you. I really enjoyed it. (: Nothing beats chatting with friends, and missing them too!

My most embarrassing moment ever goes way back. I was at a park when my friend threw a stone, and luck must really hate me, because the stone got me-on the forehead. And worse still, it was the time when the Harry Potter 2 movie was all the rage. The only thing I could think of was: “Oh, crap.” I don’t hate my friend though; not like we really intend on pulling off a David Blaine move. I was just purely unlucky.

To add matters worse, the scar was jaggedly shaped-like a lightning bolt, for goodness sake. The humiliation! People were actually pointing and staring at me at a restaurant! Jason found it hilarious. The lady who took my photo for my IC smiled. I tried flattening my hair in front, you know, but alas.

The shame! Thankfully the scar wasn’t there to stay, and needless to say, I’m never sporting a brutally short haircut anymore. That was the last time. I can show you my IC photo if you want.

Oddity

Will James McAvoy play Bilbo Baggins in the upcoming Hobbit? It sounds strange, but at least he’s wanted

And according to this site, strange things are happening at the North Pole. Penguins are freezing to death? How is that possible? The temperature is now negative 85 degrees Celsius.

Cold, chattering, teeth.

Deja Vu

Zodiac was awesome. I loved it, but before you question my sanity, allow me to break it apart and explain why.

  • The gritty, dark atmosphere in the movie is so there, and it fits the whole setting like a glove. I haven’t exactly seen a movie based on real-life events like this, and this one is definitely impressive in making me go in-depth with the film and characters. You get the whole 1969-feel… from the radio to the television set-and the typewriters!
  • I really enjoy the portrayal of the characters in the film. Robert Graysmith (Jake Gyllenhal-correct spelling?) went from cartoonist to an obsessed guy in decoding the Zodiac’s codes and to unmask the real killer. We sees his interest perks at the beginning of the film and it goes on as he relentlessly pursues the leads and cold trails on his own, including putting his face up on television. Dave Toschi (Mark Ruffalo) is an inspector who is assigned to the case when the first murders were found. He too, gets caught up in the storm and the craze. But until when Zodiac indirectly wrecks his career by a single letter, he has little to do with the case, and ultimately retires. Paul Avery (Robert Downey Jr.) is a reporter working under the same newspaper as Robert. He covers the Zodiac news, and was just as obsessed as Robert in cracking the case, until his alcoholism drove him down a different path and he too, turns away from the case. Only Robert remained in tracking the Zodiac down; Dave assisted here and there. As the prime suspect died from heart failure days before they could arrest him, there was never a trial, and the case remains open.
  • It’s not the killing scenes that are particularly scary. Because you know what is coming. But for the parts where there is mystery surrounding the codes of the Zodiac, or about Robert running around at night trying to get leads, that’s frightening in my opinion. Zodiac could be watching him… and that we will never know.
  • I felt the characters’ frustration and their compulsion in tracking this killer. He left letters, he makes calls, and yet he could not be found. It’s so…. argh.

Yeah. Those are my reasons. Still think I’m crazy? (:

Okay, two times in a week is definitely creeping me out. Either my dreams are telling me something, or it’s just the crazy paranoia (courtesy of TOA). I think I shall stick with the second option. (:

Was it that bad?

A couple of nights ago I dreamt that I was murdered.

I know, it’s a poor choice to dream about, but I always have no say in where my dreams lead to. In this case, I was killed by Sylar. Sweet. I hadn’t been thinking about that show (Heroes) in ages! Besides, there’s no news about Season 3 airing soon either. What is happening? Am I developing a strange taste for the gruesome and the gore? Actually if I can still feel queasy at the sight of Sweeney Todd (never again) I guess the world is still in the right place.

Does anyone recall The Lady in the Water by M. Night Shyamalan? The one with the mystical woman and that grassy wolf that scared the daylights out of us cinema-goers? Did that movie flop? Because I’ve read a few comments about The Happening (also by the same director) which wasn’t so good, which also have not-so-good comments about that movie as well.

Jason, I admit it. Hellboy is visually awesome. Excluding the creature that are weirder than Spiderwick, that is. But it’s way cool. (: So now I just have to find someone to watch it with me since you’re in Kampar. ):

Ilina, I swear I will memorize some weird silly song and hum it to you during Drawing 2, or during any class for the matter. (:<

You really think Nicholas Cage is not that old?

Nicolas Cage (born Nicolas Kim CoppolaJanuary 71964) is an Academy Award-winning American actor. He has also worked as a directorand producer, through his production company Saturn Films.[1] As of 2008, Cage has been nominated twice for an Academy Award as Best Actor in a Leading Role, winning the award for his performance in Leaving Las Vegas.

Oh crap, Gary Sinise is 53 years old. Unbelievable! He doesn’t look the age. (: Doesn’t matter. CSI: NY is still cool.

Lazy, breezy (Sunday) afternoon

My parents are hooked onto CSI: NY’s final episode for season 3. I think. Mac Taylor is just way cool. (:

Tied Together With A Smile lyrics

Seems the only one who doesn’t see your beauty
Is the face in the mirror looking back at you
You walk around here thinking you’re not pretty
But that’s not true, cause I know you…

[Chorus:]

Hold on, baby, you’re losing it
The water’s high, you’re jumping into it
And letting go… and no one knows
You cry, but you don’t tell anyone
That you might not be the golden one
And you’re tied together with a smile
But you’re coming undone

I guess it’s true that love was all you wanted
Cause you’re giving it away like it’s extra change
Hoping it will end up in his pocket
But he leaves you out like a penny in the rain
Oh, cause it’s not his price to pay
Not his price to pay…

[Repeat Chorus]

You’re tied together with a smile
But you’re coming undone… oh
Goodbye, baby
Goodbye, baby
With a smile, baby, baby

*

I really love that song. Why? It really strikes a chord within me. The lyrics reaches out, and this is what a good song should do. Honest! My heart feels moved. This song title is the top contender to be the title of my second untitled story.

And woot, the bad guys are shooting, and Mac and Stella are… shooting back. Sorry, am having a CSI moment. But Mac is good looking, and it’s true. The bad guy’s all emo now, speaking with this Irish accent. There’s the super cool ME with detachable glasses! I want.

Spell

I can’t stop thinking about several things.

  • the load of assignments that continue to increase and I bet there’ll be some more today.
  • Drawing homework yesterday-due Monday. *yell*
  • more photos of letterforms. Oh no.
  • Robert Downey Jr. (: Probably the most optimistic thought right now.
  • Okami Official Complete Works-29th May. It’s partially positive though. Still a week away.

You know, Marie Digby is actually pretty relaxing to listen to. (: The albums Unfold, Iron Man OST and The Futurist are currently on my phone’s playlist. Music really gets you working-if it suits the mood.

It’s still so early!

Jason, how are you in Kampar? Skype is irritating me. Somehow. I haven’t registered for a username yet.

Dream-like

Ilina, the idea of going to the beach is seriously getting to me. I’m getting all worked up.

Photo from here. Yeah, I know this isn’t Port Dickson, but it’s quite close. Now I’m just scared of getting a sunburn.

Non-related literature

Ilina, I had so much fun yesterday. And wow your house is amazing! Don’t you dare say that it’s not nice, as it’s far by one of the most gorgeous houses I’ve ever seen. Love the fish pond, love the interior, and the should-be-Japanese-dining area. And love the toilets too! Well, that’s quite irrelevant, but they look nice. Your games are fun…haha Crazy Taxi indeed! Never played anything as crazy as that before so far. And your mum makes the best roast chicken and potatoes with mushroom sauce. They’re brilliant! Love it so much. (: And not to mention that really cute muffin bread that came along with it. Super, I tell you. You are one lucky dragonfly girl. Twilight, anyone? ((:

I can’t wait to resume my driving lessons. But the thought of waiting (forever) to take the exams… makes me want to crawl away. I have enough late-experiences (courtesy of Mr. Late) to last me a lifetime.

Er… your Gaspar, my Davey Jones? LOL man, Ilina! :D And the bloopers! Oh, my stomach hurts.

Catching ideas as they pass by

I want to buy all the books and make a library. I'm not taken, but maybe my soul is.
